INCREASE IN CARD MAINTENANCE FEE IS A DISSERVICE

This morning, the 29th day of May 2012, at 06:02:54, I received a message from Ecobank saying from this month of May 2012 they have revised their Monthly Card Maintenance Fee from N100 to N200 and they say they are “committed to delivering world class service”. But I say one hundred percent increase on monthly card usage is a disservice to your customers.
Beside the injustice of the increase, the timing of the announcement also shows disregard on the part of Ecobank to its loyal customers. Telling us at the end of May that effective from same month we should expect a 100% increase in card service makes me wonder if their customer relations department is still functioning, or if they have one.
Yes every business seeks to maximize profit but an increased burden on the customer at this critical time in our nation’s economic struggle does not speak well of Ecobank. Going by this increase, Ecobank would meek out of me Two Thousand Four Hundred Naira in one year for Card maintenance and in addition, they would deduct their COT (which is about the highest in the industry) on every transaction even on the ones done using same card. Is this world class service?
I therefore urge every Nigerian to join voice with me in asking Ecobank to revise the rates back to N100, whether you are a customer or not. If Ecobank succeed, others will follow. We must rise up against this inequitable imposition by Ecobank which is ill-advised to forestall such increase across the banking industry. Let your voice be heard. Say no to increase in Card Maintenance Fee.
